Sciatica is characterized as pain running along the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve runs from your lower back to the hips and down each leg. In most cases, sciatica induces pain on a single side of the body.
What is the cause of Sciatica?
Sciatica is a result of the sciatic nerve becoming pinched, causing inflammation and pain. The most common culprits for a pinched sciatic nerve are bone overgrowth on the vertebrae, also known as a bone spur, and a herniated disk in your spine. Other causes include diabetes, which can damage the nerve, as well as a tumor that puts pressure on the nerve.
