Neck pain helped by expert Dr Petersen Chiropractor in San Jose CA

Neck pain is an extremely common ailment for athletes and non-athletes alike. Neck pain can be caused by numerous problems, self-induced or not. Poor posture is the most common cause of neck pain along with other forms of neck strain. With so many people sitting at desks all day long, especially in Silicon Valley, neck strain can be very common. Neck pain is the second most common problem relating to movable body parts and it affects about two-thirds of the population, and almost 10% of these people have chronic neck pain. Receiving chiropractic treatment from Dr. Petersen in San Jose for your neck can often help diminish or solve the problems of neck pain.

What are the causes?

Neck muscles strains are the most common causes for neck pain. Hunching over or having bad posture in general for long periods of time often leads to neck muscle strains. Sleeping at an awkward neck position or clenching can also strain the neck. Stress is also a major cause of neck pain, resulting in tension in the neck. Pinched nerves can play a big part in neck pain. Bone spurs or misalignment in the neck can cause a nerve to be compressed, causing inflammation and pain. Whiplash is another major cause of neck pain, typically resulting from automobile accidents that snap the head forward and then back. Osteoarthritis in the neck, also know as cervical spondylosis, is the result of gradual and general wear and tear of neck joints and bones, causing pain and inflammation. Illnesses such as meningitis or fibromyalgia can also affect the neck.
